“As an educator with 35 years in the classroom, I know how policies in Des Moines shape our lives. If elected, I will bring a fresh perspective to the Iowa House, a focus on our students and working families, and a passion for helping my community.”
I've lived, taught, and raised a family in Boone. I graduated from Boone High School in 1980, and went on to Iowa State to receive a bachelor's in elementary education and a master's in school guidance.
After college, I returned to Boone to work for the Boone Community School District. Over the years, I've gotten to work with countless children as I taught various subjects and served as President of the Boone Educators Association. Currently, I teach fifth and sixth-grade math at Boone Middle School.
After my husband passed away I learned first-hand what it was like to be a single, working mother. Through my experiences in the classroom, and as a working parent, I've seen how leadership in Des Moines is failing to address the challenges of everyday Iowans. We must do more to support working families, single parents, and our children.
I am a proud mother of two adult daughters, Kaitlyn and Allison. Allison and her husband, Josh, live in Boone with their daughters, Addison, 4, and Ava, 3. Kaitlyn and her dog, Bella, live in Ankeny.
As your state representative, I will work with Democrats and Republicans to help families like ours get, and stay, ahead.
